y ddawns Gymreig hon gan Rod Denley-Jones, arweinydd dawnswyr Blaenafon
i'n hatgoffa am fywyd caled y pwdlwyr a doddodd yr haearn yn
ffwrneisi’r Gwaith yno. Wrth
fonitro'r broses bwdlo'r haearn i'w buro, aweiniodd
y syllu parhaus ar y metel gwyn-boeth at ddallineb i'r gweithwyr. Felly
yn y ddawns, mae'r merched yn arwain eu partneriaid i wneud y pwynt hwn. Y brif dôn ar gyfer y ddawns hon yw Nyth y Gwcw yn D leiaf a'i gynhwyswyd yn Set Hen Ferchetan yn gynt yn y casgliad hwn. Y dôn amgen a ddefnyddir yw Pibddawns Gwŷr Gwrecsam, wedi'i chwarae fel y'i ysgrifennir, mewn amser 4/4 fel rîl fel y'i nodir yn Set y Coliwr. Yn G fwyaf, mae'n cyfuno'n effeithiol iawn â Nyth y Gwcw yn D leiaf. |
Rod
Denley-Jones, the leader of the
Blaenavon dancers composed this Welsh
dance as
a reminder of the harsh life of the puddlers who
smelted the iron in the furnaces there. Continual
gazing at the white-hot metal in monitoring the puddling process for
purifying the iron made the workers blind. So in the dance,
the ladies lead their blind partners. The main tune to for this dance is Nyth y Gwcw in D minor which was included in the Hen Ferchetan Set earlier in this collection. The alternative tune used is Pibddawns Gwŷr Gwrecsam, the Men of Wrexham's hornpipe, played in 4/4 as a reel, as it is played in Set y Coliwr. Played in G major, it combines effectively with Nyth y Gwcw in Dm. |
