  • bydd angen i o leiaf un o'r grŵp fod yn aelod o Clera
  • darparu lleoliad a chyfres o ddyddiadau ar gyfer ei gyfarfodydd ac enwi tiwtoriaid a ystyrir

Tune Clubs across Wales

Learning and playing Welsh traditional tunes

The Wales Arts Council is supporting Clera, the society for Welsh traditional instruments in its cross-Wales initiative, Alawon Cymru to help musicians learn and play Welsh traditional tunes and to improve the standard of their playing. The project has four parts, namely Tune Clubs, Tutor Sessions, Workshops and publishing a book of common session tunes.

What is a tune club?
A tune club is a local organisation that meets periodically so that it members can learn Welsh traditional tune together. It needs a venue, an organiser or organising team and members who attend. Meetings may either involve working on tunes already learned or learning new ones, possibly in tutor sessions  with a paid tutor.

What support does Alawon Cymru offer to tune clubs?
It offers a funding subsidy to encourage tune clubs to meet and learn new tunes, up to a maximum of £200. The funding is there to help pay for a tutor with travel costs, room hire if this charge is unavoidable, and general running costs such as printing and advertising. It also offers adaptable generic publicity leaflets and central website support as a general reference so that interested players can find their nearest tune club.

How do you apply for Alawon Cymru support for tune clubs?
To receive this support, the tune club needs to:
  • register with the project with about 5 interested people, including the tutor/organiser
  • one member of the group needs to join Clera if not already a member
  • provide a location and a series of dates for its meetings and identify suitable tutors
  • arrange a minimum of 5 meetings
  • collect a payment from each member, £2 per meeting is suggested, or an overall sum of  £10 for the series
  • provide a summary of the meetings held with names of tunes played and attendance records
How do I register a Tune Club with Alawon Cymru and obtain the funding?
Only a limited number of tune clubs can be supported, so return your application soon.
You will need to provide the following information:
name & contact details of coordinator, name of club, venue and projected dates, list of members, projected expenditure and income.

If possible, the form should be returned in electronic form by e-mail.
